Shanda Games Building Online Communities

SHANGHAI, Jun 08, 2011 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- Shanda Games Limited (SDG; Nasdaq: GAME) is building up open communities. Alan Tan, the company's board chairman and CEO, predicts that 90% of its revenues will come from social games in the future.

The most attractive aspect of the open communities of SDG is its large user base. Official data from the company reveals that 10% of its users pay for online games they are playing and the proportion is much higher than that of ordinary social networking Web sites.

Gamers could synchronize their data relating to extras and friends in online games to communities. SDG hopes that more third-party developers could thus be attracted for the development of applications.

Whether online communities are successful or not still depend on its active user base, openness and profit sharing with third-party developers. It is still unknown whether the strategy will bolster up the growth of the online gaming market, although SDG is rather optimistic about the future.
